The digital infrastructure of the LZVS will be migrated to a cloud environment

The Latvian Medicines Verification Organisation (LZVO) informs that in January 2026, the digital infrastructure of the Latvian Medicines Verification System (LZVS) is scheduled to be moved to the Oracle EU Sovereign Cloud platform — a specially designed data storage center adapted to the European Union (EU) data protection and sovereignty requirements.

The Oracle EU Sovereign Cloud platform enables the hosting of sensitive data and applications in the cloud, guaranteeing enhanced data security in accordance with EU data laws and requirements, and ensuring that data will not be transferred outside EU territory.

The migration of digital infrastructure — servers, databases, and software — to the cloud platform will take place in all European countries whose national medicines verification systems are maintained by Arvato Systems.

There are several significant advantages to storing technical and digital resources in the cloud platform, such as the ability to improve system performance with increasing data volumes, scale system resources as needed (including releasing excess resources when they are not required), and increasing transaction processing speed.

Arvato Systems also highlights the opportunities for modernising and standardising system architecture according to contemporary data center technologies as an important advantage. This provides benefits for various maintenance processes, such as installing system updates, performing infrastructure maintenance work, and creating backups.

The transition to the cloud platform will also help reduce maintenance and operational costs, while the ability to make broader use of services provided by the Germany-based ISP located in Frankfurt will ensure even greater protection against cyberattacks.

Oracle EU Sovereign Cloud is a cloud computing platform developed by Oracle Corporation. It provides a wide range of cloud services for businesses and developers to store, process, and analyse data, as well as to build and run applications without the need to maintain physical infrastructure.

Oracle EU Sovereign Cloud is part of Oracle Corporation, a US-based technology company.

Due to its high reliability and security standards, Oracle Cloud services are used by many large international companies, including Siemens, Nissan Motor Corporation, FedEx, as well as various EU state institutions and agencies.
