Performance indicators of the LZVS in the 1st quarter of 2024

The performance and operation of the Latvian Medicines Verification System (LZVS) in the first quarter of 2024 have been stable. The system processes transactions and generates alerts as required by the operational standards. The Latvian Medicines Verification Organization (LZVO) has no reports of potential counterfeit medicine cases.

Number of verified packages

In the first quarter of 2024, a total of 29 million transactions were carried out in the LZVS, which is a 6% increase compared to the corresponding period in 2023. The system allows two types of transactions – verification or decommissioning of medicine packaging from the system when the medicines reach the patient. After the final check, more than 7.5 million medicine packages were supplied to citizens in Latvia, marking a 4% increase from the first quarter of 2023.

Alerts

The number of alerts over time has significantly decreased. In the first three months of the year, the proportion of alerts was 0.01% of the total national transactions, often due to technical or human errors.

System end users

In Latvia, 1203 users, including pharmacies, hospital pharmacies, wholesalers, and medical institutions with a medicine purchasing license (such as hospitals, polyclinics, doctor’s offices, dental clinics, and practices), connected to the verification system and checked medicine safety in the first quarter of 2024.
