On 13 January 2021, the European Commission adopted a new Delegated Regulation, amending Delegated Regulation (EU) 2016/161 as regards a derogation from the obligation of wholesalers to decommission the unique identifier of products exported to the United Kingdom.

The Latvian medicines verification system, which was established in Latvia to check the safety of medicines and prevent people from receiving or buying falsified medicines, has been fully operational for almost two years.

As the Emergency Situation in Latvija is extended until 7 February, Latvian Medicines Verification Organization (LZVO) will work in a mixed mode, both remotely and on-site.

A new board member Evita Jaunzeme, who is representing manufacturers of innovative medicinal products (Association of International Innovative Pharmaceuticals Producers) and manufacturers of generic medicinal products (Latvian Generic Medicines Association), has been appointed on the board of Latvian Medicines Verification Organisation (LZVO) since December 8, 2020. In order to continuously maintain the security of the Latvian medicines verification system, it is necessary to renew the initially installed safety certificates every 2 years for all users connected to it.

The Latvian medicines verification system, continuing its work and all its users performing their duties, 1.94 million packs of medicines have been verified and dispensed from the system during October.

In October, 7 new users have joined the Latvian medicines verification system (LZVS), thus a total of 1257 system end users have joined the system in Latvia and the safety of medicines can be verified by them.

Attesting their qualification and high operating standards of the LZVO, more and more specialists of the Latvian Medicines Verification Organisation (LZVO) hold positions at the international level.
